Dr. Hali Healy, now based in the UK, is a Research Associate in Geography, Environmental Management & Energy Studies (GEMES) and a former Senior Lecturer in the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Anthropology and Development Studies. She has a BA in Anthropology (University of British Columbia), an MSc in Development Studies (SOAS) and a PhD in Human Geography (King’s College London). As an “engaged scholar”, she has co-authored and co-ordinated transdisciplinary research on social and environmental justice with academics, activists and “pracademics” from across the global north and south. Current projects include studies of Just Transformations through commoning in South Africa, and participatory digital counter mapping as a form of resistance to extractivism on South Africa’s Wild Coast.
